Getting the Most From Your Email Campaign
Monday, September 15th, 2008
No one in their right mind would tell you to go strictly with email newsletter marketing and nothing else.
However, it is something that can nicely complement your existing marketing strategy and for many organizations, it can be the greatest source of opportunity and follow-on revenue. If done correctly, direct email can work to reach the people that need your products and services and continue to educate your existing customers on new products and services. In turn, this can generate more business for you and your organization.
But how do you get started so that your campaigns become an effective tool in connecting you to your clients? Here are a few simple steps to get the ball rolling.
Clean up your mailing list. The last thing you want to do is be accused of spamming and to avoid this you will need to make sure you have a relevant set of email addresses. You will want to carefully read our Anti-Spam Policy to make sure you fall within those guidelines.
Plan your content. Not sure what you want to put in your message? There are several things you can use to start or expand your message. You can always draw on your own personal experience in some sort of how-to section. Is there a question that comes up that you find yourself answering over and over again? Are there any significant changes going on within your organization? What types of promotions are you offering to your clients? The list doesn’t end there — get creative!
Proofread your message. Once your email is complete, you will want to check it for errors. Using proper grammar and spelling will show your organization is professional, worthy of professional consideration. While spell-check programs are a good first-line of defense, it will normally let through some very obvious spelling and grammatical errors. It’s always a good idea to have another (or several) pair of eyes look at your email. This is because even great information can get lost when there’s an error on the page.
Test your email. One great feature in MercuryCast is the ability to send a test email to yourself so you can see just what your recipients will receive. Go through this test email before you send out your final list and make any necessary changes.
